Deep vein thrombosis is a condition of clotting of blood which is generally seen deep inside the vein. It actually affects the vein present deep inside the leg or veins present deep beneath the pelvis. This is a disease which at time occurs without any specific symptoms. Heparin is used to treat deep vein thrombosis. There are generally two kinds of sub drugs found one is UH known as unfractionated heparin and the other one is LMWH known as low molecular weight heparin. The former one is given by doctors in hospitals and the latter one is prescribed by doctors to be given in home. LMWH do not usually require any such periodical blood tests.

Warfarin is a medicine which is given to a patient who has got the clot in the upper leg. The patient needs to intake this medicine for around three months. After completing dose for three months, seeing the condition of the patient the doctor may either reduce the dose or shall may ask the patient to carry on with the same amount. This medicine usually helps the patient in preventing of recurring of the clot.

The deep vein thrombosis may become painful if it is not cured in proper time. Proper medication is the only way to prevent the clot from growing and entering the lungs. You need to take rest if such a swollen condition appears in your leg.
